Richard John Steves Jr. was born in Barstow, California; the son of Richard John Steves (a high school band director and piano technician) and June Erna Steves (maiden name Fremmerlid). The book contained a page stating, “Anyone caught reprinting any material here for any purpose will be deeply appreciated.”
