Escarré was always a person very involved with others and their problems, both in the university and in the neighborhood, at all levels, and even in sports: his neighborhood of Rabasa, the city of San Vicent del Raspeig, Alicante or the Valencian Community (there are several generations of San Vicenteros who have played field hockey for his hobby). Surely, this involvement with others led him to engage in front-line political activity, occupying various management positions (a Directorate General, and two departments) in the Valencian Administration of Joan Lerma, although he always acknowledged that it was not his most comfortable environment. He was the first Minister of Environment of the Valencian Community, leaving his mark on the organization of the Ministry, and in the establishment of the Center for Environmental Studies of the Mediterranean (CEAM), a research center (later Foundation) that has been a pioneer and international reference, both in the development of ecological restoration of Mediterranean ecosystems, as well as in aspects related to the science of the atmosphere.
