UCC Presentation

If your passion is animals and you wish to study veterinary medicine in the United States, please note that it is necessary to have completed previous university studies (have a degree or bachelor’s degree) and it is not possible to enter directly from high school.

There are about 30 veterinary schools in the United States and it is considered more difficult to be admitted to veterinary school than to enter medicine. In addition, 25 of these institutions are partially funded by the states and their residents, so natives are given preference.

UNO offers courses to prepare a student to apply for admission to LSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine. To be eligible for admission, a student must complete a minimum of 66 credit hours of specified college work. A student interested in veterinary medicine should consult with the pre-veterinary advisor during their first semester at UNO. Additional information about the pre-veterinary medicine curriculum may be obtained from the College of Science office (1100 Science Building).

Pets deserve all the love and care they can get. However, when they get sick, they need professional care. And if you are interested in caring for these animals, you can study to become a veterinary doctor.

We have also carefully included the tuition fees of these respective universities, including their acceptance rate and official website, so that you know the best institution that is likely to accept you.

However, I think of it this way: veterinarians learn a broader but shallower field (unless they specialize), and human physicians learn a narrower but deeper field.

Approximately 78 percent require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), 15 percent require the Veterinary College Entrance Test (VCAT), and 7 percent take the MCAT.

So how does this compare to the acceptance rate for veterinarians? There are 28 veterinary schools in the United States and I was able to find 2010 acceptance rates for about 10 programs.
