Professor Jo Beall is Emeritus Professor and Distinguished Research Fellow at the LSE and has conducted research in Africa and Asia on urban development and governance, as well as on cities in situations of conflict and state fragility. Jo is the Executive Director of Education and Society at the British Council, and was previously Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, responsible for the university’s international strategy. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Open University. She is the author of numerous books and articles on a wide range of topics.

Catalina holds a degree in Urban and Regional Management and a postgraduate degree in Urban Law from the Universidad del Rosario (Colombia); as well as a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the LSE. Catalina has recently led a UN-Habitat project on the development of inclusive cities for Venezuelan migrants in Trinidad and Tobago and Panama. She has also previously advised the National Government of Colombia on regional planning and development, and has worked with multilateral actors and donors across Latin America in similar areas.
